I end up using dbx (and cc) most of the time because I find the ability to
do array bounds checking SO useful.
I would be delighted if anyone ever finds time to put that facility into
gcc/gdb/gvd.

It has not been. Could you explain why you would like to use dbx instead of
gdb ?
It's always interesting to know whether lots of people are using dbx,
and for what reasons.
