Sorry, but this still does not tell me where your GTK+ is looking for
theme engines. It is not in /home/charlet/gtk/theme/engines. 

I need to know where it is , so that GVD would use theme engine of my
(or anybody else's) choice. 

I just need a path to engines directory. Are you yourself able to use
GTK+ theme engines ?? Like pixmap, step , gradient etc ??

I just need to know the exact location. 

On Unix, lickily, we can always make symlinks ..... ;o)

But when you build 1.0.3 or whatever, put it in /usr or /usr/local ...

/home/charlet is truly not very much standard ..... ;o)
