Thanks. That is what I said I am already doing, using the GAP version,
installed somewhere nonstandard.
It is just that I also have the Debian version, and when I went searching
for sources I reflexively went to /usr/lib/gcc-lib.
Sorry if my message was confusing.
Anyway, I doubt the basic implementation of signals has changed terribly
much, or has it?
