Well, you asked for a "stable" version. Only version that are packaged can be
considered stable. Using any software from a CVS repository is risky. So
depending on what you are looking for you can use the CVS repository or the
releases.

Using CVS is trivial. See the AWS web page on how to access the AWS repository
for example.

To update a CVS repository :

   $ cvs update

But you should definitly look at the CVS documentation. CVS is a great tool
that requires some leraning. See https://www.cvshome.org/docs/manual/.
