now the 'bin' subdirectory is the first in my path but i receive the same 
error


>I think you may not have actually installed GNAT? that looks like the 
download structure pre-install. There should be a 'doinstall' script at the 
gnat-2011-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-bin/  directory (and, I'd expect, a README …)

I have also tried  to run ./doinstall for GNAT gps   but i receive the same 
error
