Thanks Arno and Nicolas,

It all seems to work now.
One glitch: when running a GtkAda program I get an error:

Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module": 
libcanberra-gtk-module.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file 
or directory
Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file

The program runs but it really looks ugly. I have no idea where to look 
for "libcanberra-gtk-module.so"

BTW, this is the same error I get when running GPS
