If the Text_View is indeed slow, then this needs to be addressed, I'd suggest
filing a bug in bugzilla.gnome.org, or discussing this on the gtk-devel-list

The Text_View/Buffer was designed so that a Freeze/Thaw shouldn't
be needed. either there's some issues in the current implementation to address,
or there's a better way of achieving what you are trying to do.

Of course, that's a general advice/comment, since you didn't give any detail.
