Actually it is, we do it in GVD, but this is definitely tricky.

I'd recommend not doing it, at least not until Gtk 2.0 comes out, since there
have been many clean ups in the Socket/Plug interface and implementation.

For those really interested, you can have a look at the GVD code, and look
for Gtk.Socket in particular.
