[gps-users] Stumbling block

I'm trying to evaluate GPS at home with a view to introducing it at work
if it's useful.

I have downloaded and installed the Windows 2000 distribution. When I
follow the instructions (to the letter) to load the tutorial project and
build it, the compiler chokes immediately on the .gpr file syntax. What
well-known fact am I missing?

I have to say that running into such an error / omission so early in the
evaluation process is not giving me a warm fuzzy feeling about
usability. Hopefully one of the other list readers will be able to set
me on the right course.
