we are using Windows, Macs and Linux in about equal measures. At the 
moment, earlier years tend to have more Macs, later years tend to have more 
Windows - Linux is usually sparse in the beginning and slowly rising during 
the curriculum, and then saturating at about 25-30 % of student usage.

We use VxWorks on PhD level projects and I'm planning to use a barebone 
installation on an embedded platform (probably a highly integrated ARM 
micro) for the fourth-year Real-Time course in the future.
