Don't worry too much, publishers figure that giving out free copies
to key people increases the likelihood of bigger sales. They are not
in the charity business, they want to maximize sales, and if they
succeed, John does fine :-) :-)

One thing to understand about the publishing business is that the
actual marginal cost of production of a book is amazingly low. The
published price is often as much as 50 times the cost of production.
So giving away books to increase sales does not cost anything much.
