I agree!  But it is necessary to use the simple project menu option.
The welcome page forces me to choose from opening an existing project (I
don't have one yet), or creating a project with the wizard (too
complicated for an intro student), or starting with the default project
(doesn't have the features I want).

I've said before I'd like to have the ability to do the simple project
from the welcome page.
