You didn't say that you tried to recompile AWS, you only said you 
wanted
to install it.  Therefore, why not upgrade to Debian Testing then:

aptitude install libaws2.10.2-dev

That's why Debian is a *binary* distribution: to save you the trouble
of recompiling and maintaining dependencies.

But of course, everyone on this list knew I'd say that :)
