I set it up to run 8 tasks, which seemed to be where it peaked. Still
it was pretty far away from
actually pushing the AWS server to any degree.

I'm afraid I'm not skilled enough in C to build a simple HTTP client
that could really push the
envelope.

I'm looking at httperf, but so far I haven't figured out how to return
the amount of bytes transferred.
