After considering numerous options (Fedora, gcc 3.3.2, backing to Redhat 8.0, where 1.4 built and ran fine), upon Pascal's suggestion I downloaded a recent snapshot of gcc 3.4 (gcc-3.4-20031210 if anybody cares), rebuilt gcc (and gnat) and tasking and AWS 1.4 build and run just fine... -- Karl --
